Practising yoga postures (or asana) on a regular basis will improve muscle strength and tone and, unlike some other physical activity, when practised correctly, poses no risk of injury. Flexibility and mobility in the joints are increased. Yoga has a positive effect on the breathing, digestion and internal organs - all vital to the overal health and wellbeing.
Yoga for the mind
Mental health is a growing concern and stress is one of the major factors in all disease. Yoga asana is like a moving meditation which is excellent for resolving stress. When combined with other non-physical elements of yoga (e.g. pranayama, meditation, chanting) it is an extremely powerful way of restoring and relaxing.

Are you someone who can't do yoga? Take the yoga challenge with me. In fact it is my opinion that if you can't do yoga in my class then it is my fault. It is my job to provide you with appropriate support and modifications to ensure that you can participate to your fullest ability.
Yoga for health
Yoga, coupled with simple lifestyle improvements, can help prevent illness, disease and other serious conditions. Weight bearing exercise is known to preserve the bone density, thereby reducing the risk of osteoporosis (thinning of the bones). The reduction of stress is a major factor when trying to prevent illness. Yoga practice can lower the heart rate and blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease and also boost the immune system.
In yoga philosophy, illness takes its root in the mental/emotional sphere. Therefore in order to combat physical illness we need to bring those energies back into balance. Through a combination of gentle cleansing techniques, simple breathing exercises, some movements (asana) and other practices, this can be achieved. Powerful negative emotions can often contribute to blockages and imbalances and this is all taken into consideration. I have vast experience of working with the Astrological Birth Map in order to achieve deep reaching insight and understanding of the psyche.
